An interview with Thomas, a Sports Leader for the stand-up paddleboard family

thomas

who are you?

"When I was young I was scared of water but, at 12 years old, I discovered the incredible feeling of gliding along the water on a windsurfing board, which made me overcome this apprehension. I quickly became addicted to this activity, feeling as if I had wings and was literally flying on the water! I discovered real wings in 2001 when I started kitesurfing. As far as flying is concerned, I discovered it recently while trying Wing Foiling.
What about Stand-up Paddleboarding!? I have enjoyed Stand-up Paddleboarding since I was 15, initially to be able to escape on the water when there wasn’t any wind. but I always love changing my perspective, seeing the Earth differently and going to different places that are difficult to access on foot. Furthermore, when I arrived at the Hendaye Watersports Centre in 2015, I discovered my love of Surf Stand-up Paddleboards, my favourite activity since moving to that area."

thomas

what do you do at itiwit?

"Professionally, I am a chemical engineer of polymer materials. I directed my studies to give myself every chance to work in the field of my favourite sports. After a course in industrial textiles at Decathlon, I joined the brand Olaian as the product engineer for surfing equipment. Then, with another employee we tried out entrepreneurship by creating the wakeboarding brand at Decathlon. Now, as the leader of ITIWIT SUP, I have the pleasure of bringing together a team of enthusiasts who share the dream making it possible for everyone to "walk on water" through increasingly compact, easy-to-use products that significantly reduce our environmental impact."

What do you like about stand-up paddleboarding?

"The fact that it changes your perspective and allows you to see the Earth differently! Discovering places that are difficult to access on foot. Standing on the water also allows you to enjoy the underwater spectacle from the surface!"

your fondest memories

"Our last test mission at Gard, after having transported our equipment by bike, following the Gard and crossing the historic bridge with the whole team is my most beautiful memory to date!"
